CANDIDATE FOR SENATE DISTRICT 43
I’ve been honored to serve the citizens of House District 86 (Hamilton and the immediately surrounding area) for four terms in the Montana House of Representatives. But term limits dictate that my service in the House must come to an end.
After thoughtful consideration, I’ve decided to run to represent Senate District 43, which ranges from Corvallis and Hamilton south through Darby and extends beyond Sula and up the West Fork. The primary election for this seat will be held in June 2026.
I am running because I’m alarmed by how today’s toxic hyper-partisanship is causing citizens to view each other as enemies rather than as neighbors who simply disagree on some issues. When your political opponents are branded as hated enemies, finding any common ground becomes increasingly difficult, if not impossible. The constitutional order put in place by our nation’s Founders cannot long survive in this political environment.
Both of Montana’s major political parties are increasingly in the thrall of extremists who value ideological purity over effective governance. Both are engaged in efforts to purge “moderates” from their ranks. The losers in this debacle are everyday Montanans who simply want to live their lives in peace and expect their legislators to do the hard work necessary to actually solve problems for the good of all Montanans.
I fully expect to be attacked by the Montana GOP establishment with malicious distortions of my legislative record. But I will neither compromise my conservative values nor neglect my duty to represent all of my constituents just to please party bosses who presume to be empowered to define what it means to be a conservative.
We can restore civility to our politics and govern ourselves in a way envisioned by the Founders. It can be done. It starts here at home. It starts with you and me. If you agree, please support my candidacy.

ABOUT DAVE
David Bedey was born and raised in Hamilton. He studied civil engineering and economics at Montana State University before accepting a commission as an officer in the U.S. Army.

During a 30-year military career, Dave served in combat units—including deployment during the Persian Gulf War—and as a professor at the United States Military Academy at West Point. While on active duty, he was able to continue his formal education, earning two master’s degrees in national security studies and a doctorate in physics.

Upon retiring from the Army as a colonel, Dave returned home to Hamilton with his wife of 43 years, Deborah, and their one daughter. He spent 16 years working as the chief financial officer of an engineering firm before retiring from that position at the end of 2024.
Before being elected to the Montana House of Representatives in 2018, he served on the Hamilton School Board for nine years (chairing the board for seven of those years).

During the 2025 legislative session, Dave served on the House Rules Committee and as vice chairman of the House Appropriations Committee, where he chaired the Joint Appropriations Subcommittee for Education. Presently, he is chairing the Education Interim Budget Committee and the School Funding Interim Commission.
